Welcome to the Living Winter Library!

This is a library of information created to help you prosper this winter season. A new winter hack is added every day. We hope to accumulate a wealth of helpful winter knowledge and to share it with the world.

Winter Snow

Hack of the Day!

Train your body to resist the cold.

By going for walks in the cold (in a safe way), you can train your body to heat itself, and increase your resistance to the cold. Alongside it comes a wonderful feeling of strength and euphoria.

Tired of high electric bills during the winter due to heating? Try a Space Heater!

A Space Heater is a portable device that you can plug into a wall and heat a single room with. If you don’t need to heat your entire house, and really just need to heat your room, it’s an excellent alternative. It costs about 50 dollars and will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Protect your vehicle! Always keep at least half a tank of gas in your tank at all times.

You never know when you might get stranded, especially if you live in an area where there’s a lot of snow. Having at least half a tank of gas at all times is a great insurance policy to have during the winter months. Water can also accumulate in your tank, freeze, and damage your fuel pump. Keeping half a tank of gas can prevent that water from freezing.

Consistent, long, hot showers destroy your skin.

As tempting as they are during the winter months, if you consistently take long, hot showers your skin will eventually dry out. This can cause it to itch, even severely, or cause other skin related health problems. These enjoyable showers don’t need to be completely avoided, they just need to occur in healthy moderation. Try a lukewarm shower instead, you might be surprised at how refreshing it is.

Put a spare pair of socks in your car or backpack.

This is seriously so easy to do, and you’ll absolutely love yourself later for it. We’ve all felt the pain of having toes so cold you can’t even feel them, and having a spare pair of socks to help alleviate that pain is an extremely easy to implement remedy.

Reverse your fans!

Normal fans push down cold air and bring warm air up. However, if you reverse the direction the fan is spinning, it will do the opposite. It will suck up cold air and push warm air down. Most fans have a switch to reverse their direction, and a simple trick like this will reduce the amount you need to heat your house to stay comfortable, saving you money.
